[Once Phoenix had taken the last bite, Miles let the spoon fall into the plastic bag as well, his thoughts wandering of to how much time they still had left before… before they needed to part.
Phoenix’ voice brought him back to the here and now though and as simple and justified his concerns were, the prosecutor felt his chest tightening as they left the lawyer’s lips to form words.]
Wright…
[His heart pounded heavily in his chest when he other man came closer and leant against him. The warm feeling that spread in his chest was accompanied with a faint stinging when he remembered how fast their time was running out and Miles couldn’t help but reciprocate the other’s need for closeness, wrapping his arms tightly around Phoenix’ body.
Burying his face in the other man’s hair, Edgeworth took a deep breath, the other’s sweet scent filling his mind.]
I… don’t know, Wright.
I don’t know what will be if we won’t be given this chance… ever again…
[Speaking turned out to be a monumental task with this topic, the pain in the prosecutor’s chest getting no less.]
All we can do is to hope and—…
[…and wait? Just how long would they have to wait for anything similar to this? Maybe this really was their last chance, and there they were, unable to do anything about it but to cherish the little remains of their time together and—…]
Wright…
[Cupping the other’s cheeks with his hands, Edgeworth lifted the lawyer’s face a bit and gave him a longing look, before pressing his lips against his thumbs that separated him from the lawyer’s lips. He couldn’t help it; never had he kissed anyone before and the thought of simply forgetting his first kiss, even if it was with Wright, was somewhat frightening to him.
Still, his lips touching nothing but the skin of his own hand offered just the tiniest comfort, now that he was so very close to Phoenix, and his body wistfully craved for more, more closeness.
‘What if we never have this chance again?’
Miles removed his lips to speak, his voice silent and sorry.]
Wright…
…please pardon me…
[The prosecutor let his hands slide aside and leant forward again, closing the last bit of distance that still separated the two men until his shy lips finally met the other’s for the very first time. A wave of warmth and comfort ran through his body.
For the first time he was this close to anybody; he could smell the other’s scent, feel his warmth, breathe his breath. For the first time Miles’ lips tasted someone else’s, touched their soft skin and while the back of his hand carefully moved over Phoenix’ cheek, he felt anything but regret.]
